What Is a Client-Server Network?
A client-server network is designed for end-users, called clients, to access resources such as files, songs, video collections, or some other service from a central computer called a server. A server's sole purpose is to do what its name implies - serve its clients! You may have been using this configuration and not even have known it. Have you ever played Xbox Live or used the PlayStation Network? Your Xbox One is the client, and when it logs into the network, it contacts the Xbox Live servers to retrieve gaming resources like updates, video, and game demos.

How Does It Work?
Imagine a customer sitting at a restaurant. He is waiting for the server to come by and take his order. The same rules apply in a client-server network; the client, which can be a laptop, desktop, a smartphone, or pretty much any computerized device, can make a request from the server.

The client uses the network as a way to connect with and speak to the server. Just as the customer speaks to his server, the client uses the network to send and receive communications about its order, or request. The server will take the request and make sure that the request is valid. If everything checks out okay, then the server will fetch the request and serve the client.

The server can make a request from the client as well. It may want to check up on the status of the client, or ask if it has received any security patches, or if it still needs resources from the server. If not, the server will close the connection in order to free up network traffic.

Can you imagine a server standing next to a customer who just stares at the menu without ordering anything? After 15 minutes, it would be a good idea for the server to leave and check on other customers. In both cases, the server moves on to other clients as needed.

In Active Directory, what is an organizational unit?
An organizational unit (OU) is a subdivision within an Active Directory into which you can place users, groups, computers, and other organizational units. You can create organizational units to mirror your organization's functional or business structure. Each domain can implement its own organizational unit hierarchy. If your organization contains several domains, you can create organizational unit structures in each domain that are independent of the structures in the other domains.

The term "organizational unit" is often shortened to "OU" in casual conversation. "Container" is also often applied in its place, even in Microsoft's own documentation. All terms are considered correct and interchangeable.

At Indiana University, most OUs are organized first around campuses, and then around departments; sub-OUs are then individual divisions within departments. For example, the BL container represents the Bloomington campus; the BL-UITS container is a subdivision that represents the University Information Technology Services (UITS) department on the Bloomington campus, and there are subcontainers below that. This method of organization is not an enforced rule at IU; it is merely chosen for convenience, and there are exceptions.

File services
Managed Workstation Services provide several file service options.

Service options
All file service options have their own rate based on usage. Rates are available on the service catalog page.

Existing file service options include:

Managed Workstation home directory – user specific file share, typically referred to as the ‘H drive’
Managed Workstation Shared File Services – Shared file space, typically referred to as the ‘I drive’
Managed Workstation Windows File Services – Shared file space, hosted on a single Windows File server with richer ACLs and better support for concurrent edits
See the section entitled Other relevant documents. We recommend you consult the comparison of capabilities of UW file services which includes more details on the options above.

Two important things to note:

The Managed Workstation home directory and Managed Workstation Shared File Services are not appropriate for UW confidential data.
The Managed Workstation home directory and Managed Workstation Shared File Services are not appropriate for Microsoft Access databases.
Ordering File Services
Managed Workstation Shared File Server Directory Request
Windows File Server Directory Request
MWS Home Directories – These are not explicitly ordered. Eligibility requires a MWS Customer Account and use of Managed Workstation computers. To enable a home directory for a given user, the MWS customer account contacts must add the user to their appropriate eligibility group.
Note: Discontinuing MWS services means customers who wish to retain content will have to migrate it. We can help with that at MWS Consulting rates.

Restoring a file
Information on how to recover a deleted file stored in the first two service options above can be found on our Recovering Files page.

How usage is determined
On a daily basis, a measurement on a directory basis is taken. This measurement is based on the underlying GPFS file system and is in 1K blocks. This means the file sizes you see in user interfaces are very unlikely to match 1:1 with the measurement that is reported.

At the end of the monthly billing period, Managed Workstation takes an average of the daily measurement. This average measurement for the directory is multiplied by the rate for that file service option, which corresponds to the billed amount.

Getting file usage data
Contacts for a Managed Workstation Service can visit the myIT portal to get the latest file space usage data associated with their department. The myIT File Services page is specifically of interest.

To put it simply, CHS focuses mainly on the tangible parts of your computer. These includes their functions and maintenance. CSS, on the other hand, focuses on the functions of the Operating System and the programs that run on it.

To clearly differentiate the two, CHS was the first course that we knew since Grade 7 to 9 wherein we focus on the tangible parts not only of a computer but also a network. We have introductory course in CSS when we were in Grade 9 then we are now focusing mainly on CSS now in Grade 10 wherein we are studying more on the software aspect of networks.

Folder redirection is a crucial security tactic, allowing you to maintain ease-of-use for your users while consolidating files onto more easily secured and easily audited file servers. Folder redirection can also help enforce system configurations.

Computer system servicing is very useful. Communication between computers becomes much easier through network so sending and recieving files is more efficient for both the server and clients.

However it still has advantages and disadvantages ;
Advantage is the efficiency and disadvantage is regarding the user's privacy

Replying from a ques by Kyle Ebero: What is the importance of computer hardware servicing in ICT?
Computer hardware servicing can fix problems that are neither software, nor peopleware related, fixing components of a computer that cannot be done by some third party applications or whatsoever

Administrators can use Folder Redirection, Offline Files, and Roaming User Profiles to centralize storage for user data and settings and to provide users with the ability to access their data while offline or in the event of a network or server outage.

Answering a question by zeke: Is it necessary for one to have knowledge about CSS?
Yes, (that is why it is taught in G10 ICT). But further css and html topics are introduced in coding and programming, so you better dive in at those if you want a ict-related career
